MOVING PICTURES FILM AND TELEVISON (MPF&TV) ANNOUNCES FIRST ACQUISITION SINCE THE HIRING OF GARY HIRSCH, FORMERLY WITH FIRST LOOK STUDIOS AND SONY PICTURES
MPF&TV acquired foreign rights on "Wake" featuring Bijou Phillips and "Vampire Diaries" Ian Somerhalder (Santa Monica, CA) - November 3rd, 2009 - Moving Pictures Film and Television (MPF&TV), a wholly-owned subsidiary of ICAP--a world premier financial company specialized in the brokerage of a wide variety of capital markets, commodities, energy and service products- announces its first acquisition since the hiring of Gary Hirsch, Senior Acquisitions Executive, formerly with First Look Studios and Sony Pictures. MPF&TV acquired foreign rights on "Wake", featuring Bijou Phillips (Almost Famous, Bully, Hostel: Part II) Jane Seymour (Wedding Crashers) and Ian Somerhalder (Vampire Diaries). Currently ranked as CW's most watched series, "Vampire Diaries" is the net's No. 2 show with women 18-34. Gary Hirsch negotiated this deal with David Garber of Lantern Lane, on behalf of Bull Market Entertainment and Hal Schwartz. "Wake" is about deception and its consequences, an especially relevant topic in these uncertain times. Little white lies, self-deception, and lies of omission, whether well-intentioned or otherwise, can have unpredictable results. This is the story of a woman who learns that the truth does indeed set one free, both figuratively, and in another character's case, literally. U.S. TV and home entertainment rights to the film were previously acquired by E1 Entertainment U.S. with a DVD release anticipated in second quarter 2010. "We are enthusiastic about Gary joining the Moving Pictures team and clearly this is a fantastic project to bring to the American Film Market," comments ICAP Media Managing Director Gennaro Buonocore. "We expect to get a great deal of momentum during this exciting time." ICAP Media provides MPF&TV the ability and support needed to actively seek and acquire completed and near completed independent films. Film festivals are an important focus for acquisitions, with Buonocore leading the endeavor. Among the new projects, include the completed film "The Open Door", a supernatural thriller, by film producer Clint Carmichael and David Garber of Lantern Lane Entertainment, and a $4 million drama co-production with Mills Street Productions and Prodigy Movies, Australia, "Mary, Mary." Earlier MPFTV acquired foreign rights to "The Graves", which will be theatrically released in the U.S. in early 2010 by Lionsgate/After Dark Films' Horrorfest. MPF&TV was launched by Margaret Tritch, who is President, with the key hire of Ted Chalmers in 2006, a film sales veteran with 20 years of experience. Chalmers now serves as President of the Film & TV division, overseeing all aspects of the division, working with Tritch and Buonocore on strategic planning.
